Kennedy Plaza Park Benches
These images represent part of a proposal for a redesign of the benches in a neglected Providence park. I noticed that this park, adjacent to the Kennedy Plaza bus station, is an under-used space, compared to the activity at the plaza next door. I wanted to activate the space by attracting more people into the park. I thought about how reading is an activity people cannot help but do. I observed the area and I proposed to paint on the benches, the words of activities that one would do in the park. The idea is that if you were at the bus station and looked across the street or just walked by, and you saw these benches activated with this language, that it might entreat you to go there and do these things that you would do, in the park.
